Master map and round handicap strategies
Handicap betting adds or subtracts points/maps from a team's final score before determining the winner. This levels the playing field for mismatched games and provides better odds on favorites. Common CS2 handicaps include map handicaps (-1.5, +1.5) and round handicaps (-4.5, +4.5).
In a Bo3, -1.5 map handicap means the team must win 2-0 for your bet to succeed. +1.5 means they can lose 1-2 and you still win. Map handicaps are popular when betting heavy favorites, as they offer better odds than moneyline while requiring dominant performance.
Round handicaps apply to individual maps or match totals. -4.5 round handicap means winning by 5+ rounds (16-11 or better). These bets reward backing teams to dominate rather than just win. They're valuable when you expect lopsided maps.
Handicap betting is best when: heavy favorites offer poor moneyline value, you expect dominant performance based on map matchup, or historical head-to-heads show blowout patterns. Avoid handicaps in unpredictable matchups or matches with potential motivation issues.
Compare implied probabilities between handicap and moneyline. Sometimes -1.5 at 2.50 odds offers better expected value than moneyline at 1.30 if 2-0 probability exceeds 40%. The math should drive handicap decisions, not just desire for better odds.
